Capture the rich nature and wildlife of Panama’s Gatun Lake like a professional photographer on this guided excursion. Learn to use a DSLR camera with a semi or pro-level telephoto lens on this journey to Gatun Lake. Shoot amazing photos of Capuchin and Tamarin monkeys, iguanas and crocodiles, birds, flowers and butterflies.   Enjoy instruction from a professional photography host.  Take your memories home with you on a complimentary SD card and 1-minute tour video.

Itinerary
  • Once seated, you are briefed on the camera settings and use of the camera
  • Throughout the tour your Host will assist you with the camera 
  • To start, we head into the Panamá Canal where you will be able to photograph huge ships and tugs up close.
  • We then enter Gatun Lake where we will explore pristine rainforest islands and inlets  
  • On all tours there is a good chance of photographing monkeys, caimans, crocodiles, iguanas, butterflies and an array of wild flowers and other wildlife.  If you are lucky you may get a glimpse of the very rare manatee.
  • Throughout the tour refreshments and snacks available.
  • On return to the marina, you take away with you all your photos on a complimentary SD memory card.

  • 3-Hour fun tour as an aspiring Wildlife photographer

Through the Lens Photography Excursion
  • 5-Hour tour on the Panamá Canal, Gatun Lake and Rio Chagres

  • This tour is for photographers who wish to use their own equipment

  • Usually for the more advanced photographer

  • 1-minute Video of your tour (sent to you via Whatsapp)

  • Refreshments and snacks

  • Picnic type brunch in the Rainforest

  • Limited to 2 seats so multiple cameras can be used

  • Camera, lens and SD card not provided

Tour departs: 06:30 am

Rainforest Photography Safari
  • 4 1/2-Hour tour for those who would like a longer and more relaxed tour, and/or someone who would like to refine his/her photography skills 

  • Panamá Canal, Gatun Lake Monkey Islands and secluded inlets away from other tourist boats

  • No photography experience required

  • Use of a DSLR and semi-pro telephoto lens

  • 10 professionally edited photos (sent to via email)

  • 1-minute video of your tour (sent to you via Whatsapp)

  • Refreshments and snacks

  • Picnic type brunch in the Rainforest

  • Min. 1 seat : Max. 4 seats

Tour departs: 06:30 am

Lightroom Classic Tour / Worshop
  • Photographs are made, not just taken.  All professional photographers enhance their photos through editing

  •  A 3-Hour boat tour is then followed by a 2-Hour editing workshop on Adobe Lightroom

  • We will select several photos that you have taken, show you a number of editing techniques, and then export the edited photos in various formats

  • Use of a DSLR and PRO-level telephoto lens 

  • Suitable, but not limited to, for an intermediate photographer looking to advance his/her skills

  • Refreshments and snacks

  • Limited to 2 seats for more personalised instruction

Tour departs: 07:00 am

Photography Equipment
  • Our boat is unique to Central America

  • Designed by photographers, for photographers, the boat is ideal for exploring Gatun Lake

  • Four swivel chairs are placed along the centreline of the boat for maximum stability

  • Each chair has a gimbal onto which the cameras are mounted and balanced 

  • Moving and operating the cameras is effortless

  • The DSLR cameras are Canon 7d Mark II's  

  • The semi-pro lenses are Sigma 150-600mm

  • The pro lenses are Canon 100-400mm Mark 11's  

  • Photos are edited on Adobe Lightroom

* If you would like to use your own camera, we can provide you with a plate to mount onto the gimbal

Departure time
Tours depart at 7:00 am and 10:00 am (all year) (see each tour)
Note: For all tours, the route and times may change depending on the conditions and circumstances.
Transport to and from Gamboa Rainforest Resort Marina 
  • Should you stay Gamboa, we will collect and return you at no extra cost
  • Should you require transport from outside of Gamboa, we can make the arrangements and quote you separately (as a guide $50 per vehicle, return)
  • You may prefer to use UBER, which also cost about $50
Other Activities in and around Gamboa 
As Gamboa is about a 40 minute drive from Panama City, you may like to include other activities, such as:
  • Lunch at Gamboa Rainforest Resort or the restaurant on the river
